CHRIST CHURCH
AND
THE HISTORY OF THE ANGLICAN CHURCH IN NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND

May of 1988 saw the first traditional Anglican Church open its doors in northern Vermont in the beautiful town of Danville.  Under the guidance of Rev. Dean Steward, All Saints Anglican Church became a parish with the ACA.  Fr. Steward served as Rector until 1990.  Then from 1990 to 2003 All Saints was served by several interim and visiting priests including Rev. Angelo D’Onofrio, Rev. Joseph DeHart, Rev. Alexander Stringer, Rev. James Davis, Rev. Stephen Springer, Rev. Curt Hanners and the Rt. Rev. Bruce Chamberlain, then the Bishop of the ACA in the NE.

In 2003 the Rev. Curt Hanners was appointed by Bishop Chamberlain as vicar of All Saints.  Shortly thereafter, Rev. Hanners opened a mission church in Jefferson, NH.  (It moved to Littleton, NH later that same year.)  Thus the second traditional Anglican Church was established in the northern area – Christ Church Anglican.

Father Hanners served both parishes until 2005.  Starting in 2005, he devoted his ministry to Christ Church, Littleton.  All Saints, Danville, continued until 2007 when it closed its doors for good after 19 years of faithful witness.

In May of 2010, it became clear that Fr. Hanners health was rapidly declining.  (He died in July, 2010.)  With this in mind, the Rt. Reverend Dr. Brian Marsh, successor to Bishop Langberg, assigned the Reverend Mr. Art Bennett as the new pastor at Christ Church as of June 1, 2010.  As the lease on the space being used ran out on June 15, 2010, a hurried search for a new location started.  Thankfully, the Pastor and Board of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in St. Johnsbury, VT, graciously opened its doors to us; and we have been holding services there at 54 Southard St. since June 20, 2010.

Father Morris A special thanks to Fr. Warren W. Morris Jr. of the Old Roman Catholic Church in America who tirelessly stepped in and conducted services from April to June following the late Fr. Hanners' last stroke.

Thank You Fr. Morris
